2. Honey Ginger homemade chewable candy which can be used to soothe a cough or cold:
Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 5 two inch pieces of ginger
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup honey
- ½ tsp cinnamon powder
- Juice of half a lemon
Method:
Remove the skin of the ginger and grind it into a fine paste. In a heating pot, add in the sugar, water and ginger and let the sugar start to melt while stirring from time to time, on medium flame. When the liquid mixture starts to boil and foam up, add in the lemon, honey and cinnamon powder and stir for a few more minutes on medium flame. Then do a consistency test* to see whether the liquid mixture is ready to be removed. Then when it is at the right consistency, turn off the flame. Let it cool for a few minutes, but not completely. On a sheet of butter paper placed on a tray, you can pour small droplets next to each other and leave it to harden. Once it hardens, drizzle with powdered sugar, remove and store it in a container.
For the consistency test:
After the mixture has boiled completely and foamed up, while you leave the mixture on low or medium flame, take a bowl of water and drop in a four to five drops of the liquid mixture into the water. After a few seconds, with your finger remove that mixture from the water and try to roll it into a ball. If it forms a ball into sticky consistency, you can turn off the flame.
