We all have those days when our hair hasn’t smelled great and we’ve been too tired or lazy to go wash it. Well, then there are some others who cannot actually wash it every day because they work out on a daily basis or work in areas which can be a cause of dirt and grime to collect in the hair and scalp, leading to bad smelling hair.
Well, there is nothing like fresh smelling hair, to make you feel fresh. So, here are some ways to make your hair smell amazing:
1. Natural oils:
Natural oils can have long-lasting fragrance and the best way to reap its benefits is by adding a few drops of any essential oil into your shampoo or conditioner bottle and shake it well before use.
Another way you could use this method is by diluting a few drops of any essential oil of your choice into a carrier oil and touch a little bit of it over your roots and strands an allow the fragrance to take over
2. Dry shampoos:
Dry shampoo absorbs the natural oil or sebum from the hair, which is produced by the body’s sebaceous glands, which will make your hair look less greasy and make it smell fresher. 3. Wash anything that comes in contact with your hair:
This means washing or cleaning your cap/hat, scrunchies, hair bands, bandanas, helmet, combs, hair brushes and even your pillowcases. This is important because, even if your hair is smelling good, there can be a possibility that the bad smells could get transferred back from these items onto your hair when you use them. So, washing these items on a regular basis is essential.
4. Use hair perfumes or hair mists:
Just how you have body perfumes, there are also hair perfumes that can help your tresses smell great. It does have a certain percentage of alcohol, but doesn’t damage your hair. Most of the hair perfumes also contain products that can nourish your hair and give it a shine. But it is important to note that this method shouldn’t be used too often as it can leave your hair brittle and more prone to breakage.
You can make your own hair perfumes at home –
Rose water hair spray –
You will need –
- Fresh or dried rose petals
- Fresh or dried jasmine petals
- Water
Add the flowers to a saucepan with water in it. Let the flowers remain in water until the petals lose their colour. Pour it into a spray bottle and use it as a mist for your hair. Oil hair spray –
You will need –
- Rose water – 1/2 cup
- Light weight hair oil – 1 tbsp
- Lavender, rose or jasmine essential oils – 15+ drops
In the spray bottle, add in any light weight hair oil like coconut oil or argan oil. Add in few drops of any essential oil of your choice, mix well and pour it into the rose water. Shake really well each time you use the spray and spray it on dry hair. It will add fragrance to your hair.
5. Use scented hair products:
If you find that your hair if often letting out a bad odour, maybe you can start using scented hair products which include your hair sprays, shampoo and hair conditioner, hair styling products, hair oil/essential oils etc. it can help make your hair feel fresh for longer hours after usage.
6. Try using leave-in conditioners:
This product can not only provide additional moisture and protection to the hair, it can also help make your hair feel fresh. It is important to note that these leave-in conditioners aren’t ade in the same way as the regular conditioners in terms of their effects and efficacy. This means that it cannot condition your hair as well as a regular conditioner will. This product cannot be used on a regular basis, as it will lead to product buildup and can cause scalp infections and irritation.
7. Using hair rinses once a week:
Sometimes scalp buildup could lead to bad odour over time. Therefore, using hair rinses can help deodorize your hair and make it smell fresh longer. So, you could try out hair rinses with rose, jasmine or hibiscus once a week or once in two weeks, especially if you have an oily/greasy hair type. 8. Regular hair washing:
Last but not the least, this is a known one of course! So, some people have naturally oily or greasy hair which can often lead to bad smelling hair. there are times when scalp buildup too can cause the hair to smell bad. Therefore, washing your hair on a regular basis is essential as it can help purify the scalp and hair and make your hair smell and look fresh.
