We all want that perfect glowing and radiant skin, but find it hard to achieve. Well, what if I told you that your wait has ended and you can now get one step closer to getting that perfect glowing complexion with this simple home remedy – the rice water face rinse!
Rice water is a common ingredient in home remedies for hair growth, but this time it is for your skin!
So let’s get into the details of how using rice water can actually benefit your skin.
1. Helps reduce dry skin:
There are times when our skin gets dry because of lack of hydration and moisture. The place we live in also contributes to our skin texture, like for example cold climates or places which are less humid. In such cases, using rice water can help keep the skin moisturized and hydrated.
2. Protects the skin from ultra-violet rays/sun damage:
Rice water is rich in amino acids, vitamin B, vitamin E, minerals and antioxidants. These antioxidants can help protect the skin from free radical (unstable molecules in the body that damage the healthy molecules in our bodies) damage and prevent oxidative stress.
3. Acts as a skin lightening agent:
For those people who have dark patches on the skin or are victims to tan, using rice water face rinses can help lighten the skin tone and promote a better skin complexion.
4. Helps prevent premature aging of skin:
Rice water contains antioxidants that can help slow down the body’s natural process of aging. Rice water can help promote better skin elasticity and prevent premature aging of skin.
5. Helps keep the skin barrier healthy:
The outermost layer of our skin is always exposed and can be a victim to skin damage. Using rice water can help promote better skin barrier health while also protecting it from damage, as rice contains high starch content.
6. Can help reduce skin oiliness and greasiness:
Rice water has astringent effects and can help reduce skin oiliness. Therefore for those who suffer from acne and breakouts, using rice water can help reduce it.

2. Fermented rice water:
Using fermented rice water (fermentation makes the solution more potent), has an additional benefit, as fermented rice water contains a substance called pitera, a nutrient, which is a natural byproduct that is rich in minerals, vitamins and amino acids and can boost cell regeneration. Rice water also contains ferulic acid, which can help block out ultra-violet (UV) damage which can neutralize oxidative damage and boost the effectiveness of the antioxidants.
3. Boiled rice water:
This method is similar to how you make cooked rice to eat.
Ingredients:
1 cup rice (any rice of your choice)
4 cups of water
Method:
Wash the rice a couple of times with water, before boiling the rice.
Into a heating pot, add in the rice and the water and let it come to a boil. Strain the rice using a colander. Let the rice water cool and then you can store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Please Note: For this method, dilute the rice water with water before using it for your face.
How to use the rice water for your skin:
Wash your face with plain water before applying the rice water. Take a cotton ball and dip it into the rice water and apply this all over your face evenly. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before washing off with plain water and a mild cleanser.
Tip: You can also pour the rice water into a spray bottle and spray this evenly all over your face, instead of using the cotton ball method of application.
