WHY ONION JUICE IS A MIRACLE POTION FOR YOUR HAIR

Here’s how you can make onion juice at home, in two ways:

Method 1:

Wash and remove the skin of one big sized onion and then grate this onion using a food grater. After this step, either using a strainer or a muslin cloth, squeeze the juice out of the grated onion and collect it into a small container and it is ready to use.

Method 2: (This method is relatively easier and quicker)

Wash and remove the skin of one big sized onion and roughly chop it into 4 to 6 big pieces and grind it to a fine paste, using a mixer grinder. Then using either a strainer or a muslin cloth, squeeze the juice out of the grated onion and collect it into a small container and it is ready to use.

How to apply, using two ways:

Method 1: Start off with detangling your hair and make it free from knots. Then, into a liquid applicator bottle, pour in around ½ cup of onion juice. Then, partition your hair and evenly apply this into your scalp and the rest you can apply it on your hair using downward strokes. Lastly, massage it in gently using your fingertips and tie your hair into a loose bun or preferably tie your hair into a shower cap and leave it on for one hour. Rinse your hair using a mild shampoo and conditioner and let your hair dry naturally.

Method 2: Start off with detangling your hair and make it free from knots. Then, pour into a small bowl around ½ cup of onion juice. You can also add in equal parts of any hair oil of your choice to the juice. Then, partition your hair and evenly apply this into your scalp using a cotton pad and the rest you can apply it on your hair using downward strokes. Lastly, massage it in gently using your fingertips and tie your hair into a loose bun or preferably tie your hair into a shower cap and leave it on for one hour. Rinse your hair using a mild shampoo and conditioner and let your hair dry naturally.

Tip:

  • You can also add in 1 tsp of warm coconut oil into the onion juice and 2 drops of any essential oil, to dilute the smell of the raw onions.

  • Use this 2 times a week for best results.

Caution:

Onion juice can cause burning if it enters your eyes or even if it is applied to the hair roots near your forehead and therefore, it is advisable to cover your forehead with a forehead bandana before starting this process or just as soon as you finish the application process.

It is advisable to do a patch test on a very small portion of your scalp before using it on your entire scalp, as some people have sensitive skin and it can cause irritation and burning. If it causes you any such irritation and burning after the patch test (which should be left on for 10 to 15 minutes after application to that portion), then rinse off immediately and discontinue its usage with immediate effect.
