Bhringraj is a plant belonging to the sunflower family and is commonly known as ‘False Daisy’. Bhringraj extract or Bhringraj oil is well-known as ‘The Ruler of hair’ or ‘Food for the hair’ as it has multiple benefits to promote hair health.
This article will tell you about the benefits of Bhringraj oil, how to make it at home and how to use it to improve hair health.
Let’s look into the benefits of Bhringraj oil for hair:
1. Can help hair growth:
Using Bhringraj oil is known to prolong the anagen phase (active growth phase) of hair growth. It also strengthens the hair follicles and nourishes them. When Bhringraj oil is massaged into the scalp, it helps promote better blood circulation. This is very essential as it can help promote better hair growth by activating the dormant hair follicles and facilitating hair growth.
2. Can help reduce dandruff:
Bhringraj oil can easily penetrate into the hair and help reduce hair dryness and keep the hair nourished. This helps reduce scalp dryness as well, in turn reducing dry scalp and dandruff and flaking.
3. Can help reduce hair fall:
There are times when the hair strands weaken and begin to break and fall off. When we massage this oil into the scalp, it penetrates into the hair follicles and nourishes the hair strands, hence promoting better hair strength and reducing hair fall. It will also help prevent hair breakage caused by damaged hair.
4. Can help prevent premature greying of hair:
Bhringraj oil has natural hair dying properties with its active ingredients haritaki and jatamansi that help maintain the natural colour of the hair. It helps reduce and prevent premature greying of hair, while it also helps reverse this condition as it dyes the hair when used. READ MORE – SHAMPOO HACKS FOR HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH
5. Other benefits:
- Antibacterial properties: Dandruff and scalp infections are common causes for hair loss and therefore, the antibacterial properties can help prevent these scalp conditions.
- Nourishes the scalp and keeps it moisturized: It helps reduce dry hair and moisturizes and nourishes the hair by penetrating into the hair shaft. This property of Bhringraj oil can help reduce hair dryness, frizz and split ends and prevent hair breakage and makes the hair feel naturally conditioned and gives it a naturally glossy and shiny look.
How to make Bhringraj oil at home:
Ingredients:
½ cup fresh Bhringraj leaves
⅛ cup curry leaves (optional)
2 cups coconut oil
(Or sesame oil)
Method:
Wash the fresh Bhringraj leaves and curry leaves (if you wish to add them) in water two to three times to get rid of all the impurities. Then coarsely grind these leaves in a mixer grinder and set aside.
Into a heating pot, add in the coconut oil and let it heat up, then add in the coarsely ground leaves and let this mixture begin to boil. Once it comes to a boil, lower the flame and let this boil for around 8 minutes. You will soon notice that the colour of the oil has turned into a darkish green shade. Then increase the flame and let it boil on high flame for 2 to 4 minutes before turning it off. Let this cool a little and then using a fine strainer or muslin cloth, strain this oil into a glass jar (preferably) for storage purposes.
