We’ve often heard of body detoxes, but “hair detox” is relatively new, right? Well, you read that right. Hair detox is a real thing!
So what’s the hype about this “hair detox” and why do we need it?
Well, just how our bodies require detoxification from time to time, so does our hair. After constant use of products, there is a possibility to have product remnants like shampoo, conditioner, hair styling products, oils, gels etc which can lead to scalp buildup, over time. This is practically unhealthy for the scalp and can hamper hair growth, cause dryness, frizziness and also scalp infections.
This scalp buildup will not allow proper flow of nourishment to enter into the hair follicles. Scalp buildup needn’t just be product buildup, but can also be natural buildup of dead skin cells, flakes and dandruff etc. Therefore, in order to revive hair growth and enhance hair quality, it is very important to get rid of scalp buildup and rejuvenate the already existing hair, to reduce hair shaft damage if any.
Here are five natural ways to detox your hair:
1. Use the Clay mask:
Clay acts as a natural hair and scalp clarifying agent that can help detoxify your hair and scalp and deep cleansing it. It can help remove the excess oil, reduce dandruff and get rid of excess product buildup.
You will require:
1 tbsp bentonite clay and 2 tbsp of water
To use: Mix the two ingredients and let the clay completely dissolve in the water. Rinse your hair with warm water and apply this clay mixture all over your scalp. Leave it on for 10 mins and rinse off properly with plain water. Follow up with a hair conditioner or vinegar hair rinse.
2. Use micellar water:
Using micellar water can help deep clean the scalp, clean and nourish it. It can help remove scalp buildup effectively as micellars are tiny clusters of molecules that attach to impurities and eventually dissolve it. Micellar water or products with micellar water are free from harsh ingredients and contain ingredients to nourish and cleanse the scalp and hair. You can use micellar water just the same way you would use any other shampoo to wash your hair. READ MORE – Aloe homemade shampoo bar to stop hair fall
3. Use an apple cider vinegar hair rinse:
Apple cider vinegar is acetic in nature and also contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) that can help reduce buildup and grease from the scalp and cleanse the hair shafts.
Ingredients:
1 cup of filtered water
⅛ cup or 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
(Raw and unfiltered)
Method:
In a cup of filtered water, add in the apple cider vinegar and mix it well.
To use: Add this mixed apple cider vinegar and water solution into a spray bottle and spray it all over your scalp and hair evenly. When applying it on your hair, use downward strokes and gently rub it in. Then, let it sit for 30 minutes before washing your hair with a mild shampoo and conditioner. Pat dry your hair with a towel.
4. Try the honey shampoo hack:
Using honey can help restore hair luster and shine, as it is a natural humectant and moisturizing agent that can cleanse the hair, detoxify it and promote better hair health altogether.
You will need:
1 tbsp raw or organic honey and 3 tbsp filtered water
Method:
Into a small mixing bowl, add in the honey and water and mix well until properly combined. Then, use this just as you’d use any other regular shampoo, by wetting your hair, shampooing it with this honey shampoo mixture (concentrate on the scalp by rubbing it in with your fingertips) and then rinse off with plain water and a mild shampoo and conditioner.
5. Try the coffee sugar scalp scrub hack:
The benefits of using this scalp scrub is just like you use face scrubs to exfoliate your skin, can be beneficial to help remove the excess dead skin cells, excess oil, dirt, product buildup and dandruff, in turn detoxifying the scalp to promote better hair growth from the hair follicles (right from the root). When the scrub is being washed off, the coffee will run along the length of your hair and will help improve hair texture and shine.
