Here are six hacks for softer, smoother lips:
1. Homemade lip polish: Olive oil, almond oil and Jojoba oils are rich in vitamins and have natural moisturizing properties that can help moisturize and heal dry lips.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp superfine sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Method: Into a mixing bowl, add in the superfine sugar and olive oil and mix it well until properly combined. If you have regular sugar then add the sugar to a blender jar and pulse for 2 secs to get a sand like consistency.
To use: Apply this evenly over your lips, so they are coated and then gently massage it in using circular motions for a few minutes. Lastly, rinse off with plain water.
2. Overnight lip mask: Honey is a natural humectant (hydrator) and has antiseptic properties. It can not only keep the skin moist, but also can help heal cracked or dried lips.
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1 tsp raw honey
Method: Into a mixing bowl, add in the aloe vera gel and raw honey and mix this very well.

3. Lip moisturizer -Repair lips: Turmeric contains antioxidants that can help provide a better glow and lighten pigmented lips. Ghee is a natural hydrating agent that can help brighten the lip skin and also treat dry chapped lips overnight.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp ghee
- ¼ tsp organic turmeric powder
Method: Into a mixing bowl, add in the ghee and organic turmeric powder and mix this well until properly combined.
To use: Apply this generously over your lips whenever your lips feel dry or chapped, gently massage it in and leave it on for as long as you wish.
4. DIY lip stain: Aloe vera has natural moisturizing effects that can help make the skin soft and supple. Beetroot can help heal parched and dry lips, help the lips regain its natural pink colour over time, as it has natural bleaching properties to lighten the lips. It also helps exfoliate the dead skin cells and make the lips feel smoother and softer.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1 tsp beetroot powder
- 1/4 cup rose water
Method: Into a mixing bowl, add in the aloe vera gel and beetroot powder and mix this well until properly combined. Store in a small container and use once a day, for better results. If the aloe vera gel is too thick then add more rose water to get a serum like consistency. Adjust the beetroot powder according to your preference.

5. Lip oil – Heal dry lips :
Ingredients:
- 2 tsp almond oil
- 4 to 6 strands of saffron
Method: Into a mixing bowl, add in the almond oil and saffron strands and mix this well until properly combined and you begin to see the colour of the saffron releasing. (You can pour this into a roll-on bottle or use your fingertip to apply).
To use: Apply this generously over your lips whenever your lips feel dry or chapped, gently massage it in and leave it on for as long as you wish or you can also leave it on overnight.
6. Lip scrub: The coarse properties of sugar, helps act as a natural exfoliant and can help get rid of dry lips.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp honey
- ½ tsp coconut oil
Method: Into a mixing bowl, add in the brown sugar, honey and coconut oil and mix this well until properly combined.
