How to Ripen Different Types of Fruits Quickly

1. Avocados

Into a paper bag, place the unripe avocado with a ripe banana (or an apple or kiwi) and fold it to seal. The ethylene gas will get trapped inside the bag and the avocado will ripen faster.

2. Bananas

Store bananas in a warm area. Meaning you can place your bananas near a heater, on top of your refrigerator or near a window where you get direct sunlight and it will ripen faster. Warmer areas can speed up the production of ethylene gas and can hence ripen faster.

3. Guava

Keep your guavas near a window where there is direct heat and light. This can help ripen the guavas easily. Warmer areas can speed up the production of ethylene gas and can hence ripen faster.

4. Mangoes

Place your mangoes in a bag or container of rice. Rice can help trap the ethylene gas around the mangoes and it helps aid the ripening process.

5. Pears

Keep the pears in a paper bag along with an apple and fold it to seal. Similar to an avocado,the ethylene gas will get trapped inside the bag and the pears will ripen faster.

6. Kiwi

Keep the kiwis in a paper bag along with a banana or an apple and seal to fold. The banana and apple release ethylene gas while helps ripen the kiwi quicker.

7. Pineapple

For a pineapple to ripen faster, keep the pineapple upside down (leafy end at the bottom). Turning it upside down will help the sugars flow from the bottom or the base, to the rest of the fruit.

You can also bake the pineapple to ripen it faster and make it more juicier and sweeter – Start by heating the oven to 225°F. Place the whole pineapple — leaves and all — directly on the rack in the middle of the oven, and cook it for 20 minutes. Baking your pineapple sweetens the flesh makes it juicier, leaving you with deliciously luscious fruit.

8. Peaches

Cover the peaches with a cotton cloth (or linen cloth), both on the top and bottom, to help speed up the ripening process. Make sure that if you are ripening more than one peach, keep them on a flat surface apart from each other. Tuck in the sides of the cloth to cover them completely so that no air can enter.

9. Oranges and Grapefruit

Place your oranges and grapefruit near a ripe apple or pear. This can help make them ripen quicker. You could also follow the paper bag method and seal the oranges or grapefruits in a paper bag with a ripe apple or pear and seal to fold and wait until ripened.

10. Plums

Similar to peaches, cover the plums with a cotton cloth (or linen cloth), both on the top and bottom, to help speed up the ripening process. Make sure that if you are ripening more than one plum, keep them on a flat surface apart from each other. Tuck in the sides of the cloth to cover them completely so that no air can enter.

11. Chikoos

Wrap up the chikoos in paper and place them in a sack or container of rice. Make sure the chikoos wrapped in paper are covered in the rice. Close the sack/container and wait until ripened.

12. Grapes

You can keep your unripe grapes in a fruit basket along ripe apples or pears and then cover them with a cotton or linen cloth. Leave them in a warm place (like the top of the refrigerator or near a window that gets direct sunlight) and wait until ripened.
