Here are two ways to treat and prevent damaged hair:

1. Oiling of hair:

Oiling your hair can be beneficial to save the hair from damage and promote hair repair and hair growth over time. It can provide relief from stress, promote hair strength, prevent hair fall and keep the hair and scalp hydrated, reducing hair damage.

How to oil your hair:

Warm up the carrier oil of your choice just a little (you can add in a few drops of any essential oil if you wish to) and do not make it too hot, as it will burn the scalp. This step is important as the warm oil can penetrate into the hair follicles more easily and soothe the scalp and stimulate hair growth and hair repair. Partition your hair and evenly apply the oil onto the scalp and hair. Massage the oil into your scalp using gentle and circular motions and do this for around 5 to 10 minutes. Start with the scalp and then work your way down to the hair and until the tips of the hair. Let it then sit for half an hour to an hour before washing your hair with a mild shampoo and conditioner. Let it dry up naturally.

HAIR CARE ROUTINE

2. Washing hair with cold water:

When we wash our hair with cold water the hair cuticles contract trapping in the moisture and protecting it from hair damage. When we use hot water the layers of the hair or the cuticles, open up and results in dry, damaged and frizzy hair with split ends. Coldwater helps keep the hair cuticles healthy and promotes better hair lustre and shine and keeps the hair strands closed, flat and smooth.

For those who do not wish to have a cold-water head bath, you could use lukewarm water and just before you step out of the shower, tilt your head into the basin and put two mugs of cold water on your hair to close the hair cuticles.
