8 Food Items You Can Make At Home Instead of Buying
1. Homemade Healthy Nutella
Ingredients:
- 2 cups hazelnuts (roasted)
- 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup cacao powder
- 1/3 cup sweetener ( date sugar, coconut sugar, honey or date syrup)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp oil ( optional)
Recipe –
First, make hazelnut butter – In a blender or food processor, blend the roasted nuts until they’ve turned to a nut butter ( it takes up to 15-20 mins) Then add all other ingredients and blend until it’s smooth like Nutella! If desired, add in the milk or oil. I would suggest consuming it within a month at room temperature, depending on the time of year. For longer storage, refrigerate.
2. Peanut Butter
Ingredients:
- 2 cups dry roasted peanuts (without skin)
- Honey (optional)
Recipe:
Into a mixer, add in the peanuts and grind into a fine paste (the peanut oil will come out during the process), after which you can add in the honey (if you wish to make your peanut butter a little sweet).
Tip: If you find that you aren’t able to grind your peanuts into a very fine and smooth paste, you can add ½ to 1 tbsp of oil (gradually).
3. Yogurt
Ingredients:
- 2 tsp yogurt
- 2 cups milk
Method:
In a heating pan, boil the milk and once boiled, let it sit until it is lukewarm and ready to use.
Then, into a bowl (glass bowl preferably), add in the homemade yogurt starter and then pour in the lukewarm milk. Stir this mixture well until well mixed and then cover it with a lid and set it aside for 4 to 8 hours or until it sets.
Tip: Store the yogurt mixture in a warm place, as it will help thicken and set the yogurt faster.
4. Powdered Sugar
Ingredients:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp corn flour
Method:
Into a mixer, add in the granulated sugar and corn flour and grind until fine. Transfer into a container for storage.
Note: Sift before use in case lumpy.
5. Boiled egg mayonnaise

Recipe :
Mix everything in a blender and enjoy.

7. Tomato Ketchup
Ingredients:
- 6 ripe tomatoes
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- 3 tbsp sugar
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp white vinegar (distilled)
Method:
Blanch the tomatoes in water until soft and peel off the skin once cooled. Puree it in a mixer grinder until you get a smooth paste. Thereafter, boil the mixture for about 20 minutes on low heat in a saucepan, stir frequently.
