Well, the word “deli meats”, is short for delicatessen meats, which are ready-to-eat processed meats like bacon, sausages, bologna, pastrami, luncheon meat, corned beef, including cold cuts like salami, ham, turkey and chicken slices etc.

Deli meats aren’t considered healthy options for meals, even though they are easy to make and can make for quite a delicious and wholesome meal.

Thus, instead of deli meat sandwiches, there are many healthier alternatives you can have and here are some of them!

10 Deli Meat Sandwich Alternatives

1. Hummus and Avocado Sandwich

For this sandwich you will need to take a couple of slices of bread, spread a generous layer of hummus (store-bought or homemade) over one side and top it up with a layer of mashed avocado or thinly slices avocado slices. Close with another slice of bread.

You can season it with salt, pepper, chilli flakes, a drizzle of lemon juice, herbs or any other seasonings of your choice.

2. Nut Butter and Berry Sandwich

On a slice of plain bread or lightly toasted bread, spread a thick layer of nut butter of your choice (like peanut butter, cashewnut butter, almond butter etc). Then, chop up some fresh berries and top it up over the layer of nut butter before placing over a slice of bread to close.

3. Veggies and Cheese Sandwich

On a slice of bread, place a slice of cheese or grate some cheese over it. then, slice/julienne some carrots and cucumber and place it over the cheese and close with another slice of bread.

4. Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Generously spread some peanut butter over a slice of bread. Thereafter, cut circles of a banana and place it over the peanut butter bread slice and cover with another slice of bread.

On a slice of bread, apply some cheese spread (plain or flavoured will do). Then, slice some tomato and cucumber and place it over the cheese spread slice of bread and close with another.
