Wondering what new items you can try out for a good and healthy breakfast? Well, have you ever heard of “dosa”? It is a breakfast delicacy native to India, also known as savory pancakes and trust me, they are super healthy, extremely yummy and can be made instantly!
Here are 6 crispy dosa or pancakes recipes for you to try out:
1. Rice Pancakes
Ingredients:
- veggies – ½ an onion, ¼ a carrot and 1 tbsp cilantro or coriander leaves
- ½ cup fine rice flour
- Chilli flakes to taste and Salt to taste
- 1¼ cup water
Method:
Peel an onion and grate it into fine bits. Then, peel off the skin of the carrot and grate it into fine bits. Then, set aside these two vegetables in a bowl. Chop up a little cilantro or coriander leaves (around 1 tablespoon) and add it into the bowl. Next, add in the rice flour and water, along with chilli flakes and salt to taste. Then, give it a good mix and set the batter aside for 10 minutes.
Thereafter, heat up a frying pan and smear some oil on the heated base. Pour in the dosa batter just thin enough to cover the base of the pan, cover with a lid and fry until the base is crisp and golden brown. Once done, remove from pan and you can eat along with a side of a chutney of your choice.

2. Wheat Onion Dosa
Ingredients:
- veggies – ½ an onion, 4 to 5 chopped curry leaves
- ½ cup wheat flour
- Chilli flakes to taste
(Or finely chopped green chillies) - Salt to taste
- 1 cup water
Method:
Peel an onion and grate it into fine bits. Then, chop some curry leaves finely. Then, set aside this aside in a bowl. Next, add in the wheat flour and water, along with chilli flakes or finely chopped green chillies and salt to taste. Then, give it a good mix and set the batter aside for 10 minutes.
Thereafter, heat up a frying pan and smear some ghee or oil on the heated base. Pour in the dosa batter just thin enough to cover the base of the pan, cover with a lid and fry until the base is crisp and golden brown.
Once done, remove from pan and you can eat along with a side of a chutney of your choice.
3. Chickpea Tomato Dosa
Ingredients:
- ½ a tomato
- ½ an onion
- 1 tbsp cilantro/coriander leaves
- ½ cup chickpea flour
- Chilli flakes to taste
- Salt to taste
- 1/3 cup water
Method:
Peel an onion and grate it into fine bits. Then, chop up a tomato and some cilantro/coriander leaves into small bits. Then, set aside in a bowl. Next, add in the chickpea flour and water, along with chilli flakes and salt to taste. Then, give it a good mix and set the batter aside for 10 minutes.
Thereafter, heat up a frying pan and smear some oil on the heated base. Pour in the dosa batter just thin enough to cover the base of the pan, cover with a lid and fry until the base is crisp and golden brown.
Once done, remove from pan and you can eat along with a side of a chutney of your choice.
4. Jowar Garlic Dosa
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Jowar flour
- 1/4 cup semolina
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- Chilli flakes to taste
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 glass of water
Method:
Into a bowl, add in the jowar flour, semolina, along with the garlic paste, ghee, chilli flakes and salt to taste and some chopped coriander leaves. Give it a mix, add in the water and mix well. Set the batter aside for 10 minutes and then fry your dosas.
Thereafter, heat up a frying pan and smear some oil on the heated base. Pour in the dosa batter just thin enough to cover the base of the pan, cover with a lid and fry until the base is crisp and golden brown.
Once done, remove from pan and you can eat along with a side of a chutney of your choice.
5. Semolina Onion Dosa
Ingredients:
- ½ cup semolina/rava
- ½ cup fine rice flour
- ¼ cup finely chopped onions
- 1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
Method:
Into a mixing bowl, add in the semolina, rice flour, chopped onions, chopped green chillies and some salt to taste, along with the water. Give it a good mix and set the batter aside for 10 minutes.
Thereafter, heat up a frying pan and smear some oil on the heated base. Pour in the dosa batter just thin enough to cover the base of the pan, cover with a lid and fry until the base is crisp and golden brown. Once done, remove from pan and you can eat along with a side of a chutney of your choice.
6. Wheat Carrot Dosa
Ingredients:
- ½ cup wheat flour
- ¼ cup semolina
- ¼ cup grated carrots
- ½ tsp sesame seeds
- Salt to taste
water 1.5 cups
Method:
Into a mixing bowl, add in the wheat flour, semolina, grated carrots, sesame seeds and some salt to taste. Then, add in the water and give it a good mix, then set the batter aside for 10 minutes before frying your dosas.
Thereafter, heat up a frying pan and smear some oil on the heated base. Pour in the dosa batter just thin enough to cover the base of the pan, cover with a lid and fry until the base is crisp and golden brown.
Once done, remove from pan and you can eat along with a side of a chutney of your choice.
