Easy Gravy Recipes

1. Simple All-Purpose Gravy Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups stock
    (chicken, beef or vegetable)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp butter or oil
  • Pepper and salt to taste
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Method:

Into a pot, add in the butter and let it melt on low heat. Thereafter, add in the flour and whisk until combined with the butter and cook for a couple of minutes. Make sure to keep mixing so that the butter-flour mixture doesn’t burn.

Next, add in the stock, along with the salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder and give it a mix and let it come to a boil. When the mixture begins to thicken, continuously stir and turn off the heat. It is then ready to serve.

2. Chicken Gravy Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Drippings from roasted chicken (link to roast chicken) , about ¾ cup
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth (or turkey or vegetable broth) (add extra ¾ cup if not using drippings)
  • salt and pepper , to taste

Method:

To make the gravy, use a large sauce pan and add ½ cup of drippings (or chicken broth) to the pan. Add ¼ cup flour to the pan and whisk together until it makes a smooth paste. When you have found the right consistency, whisk the mixture slowly over the heat as it begins to brown. You are creating a roux. Once you get a nice lightly golden color, add 2 cups of chicken broth and ¼ additional cup of drippings. Once you are happy with the consistency of your gravy, season with pepper (and salt if needeto taste, and enjoy!

3. Turkey Gravy Recipe ( without drippings)

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • ½ cup refined flour
  • 450 grams stock
    (Turkey)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ an onion, minced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning

Recipe :

Into a pot, add in the butter and let it melt. Toss in the onion and garlic and let it cook. Add in the flour and whisk until it forms a paste. Next, add in the stock and let it come to a boil and begins to thicken. Stir continuously so that no lumps form. Lastly, add in the poultry seasoning, salt and pepper to taste, mix and turn off the heat. It is ready to serve.

Turkey gravy with drippings –

Ingredients:

  • drippings from roasted turkey
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth (or turkey or vegetable broth)
  • salt and pepper , to taste

Recipe –

To make the gravy, use a large sauce pan and add 1 cup of drippings to the pan.  Add ½ cup flour to the pan and whisk together until it makes a smooth paste. When you have found the right consistency, whisk the mixture slowly over the heat as it begins to brown.  You are creating a roux.   Once you get a nice golden brown color, add 4 cups of chicken broth and 1 additional cup of drippings. Allow the gravy to cook, whisking constantly for about 5 to 8 minutes, or until thickened.  Once your happy with the consistency of your gravy, season with salt and pepper, to taste, and enjoy!

Mushroom Gravy Recipe

4. Mushroom Gravy Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 450 grams of sliced mushrooms
  • 3 cups vegetable or chicken stock
  • ¼ cup refined flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

Method:

Into a pot, add in the olive oil and butter, let it get heated. Next, add in the mushrooms and garlic cook for 2 mins. Add salt and pepper and cook for another 2 mins until the mushrooms have turned golden. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute. Add the broth and simmer until thickened, whisking often, about 20 minutes. Taste and Season with more salt and pepper If needed. Pour into a gravy jug and serve with everything! 

5. Sausage Gravy Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 450 grams breakfast sausages (chopped)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2½ cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

Into a pot, add in the sausages (chopped into pieces) and let it cook for a few minutes until done. Then sprinkle the flour of the sausage pieces and let it cook for a bit. Next, add in the milk and stir continuously, as the mixture begins to slowly thicken. Make sure that no lumps form. Lastly, add in the salt and pepper to taste and give it a mix. It is then ready to serve.
