What you need for the recipe ?
This chocolate pie is not only rich creamy and delicious but easy to make. You can make the pie crust at home or just use a store bought crust. You can also use chocolate cookie crust, or one that is made of graham crackers. Just buy graham crackers and blend them in the food processor. Add melted butter, press into a 9-inch pie pan and bake for 10 minutes at 350°F before using it in your recipe.
For a healthier sugar substitute use coconut sugar instead. Use cocoa or cacao powder for this recipe or 6 oz of bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped. For the milk, use whole milk or evaporated milk.
Addons – you can add in 2 tsp of instant coffee powder to enhance the flavors. 😊
Ingredients –
- 1 pie crust homemade or store-bought
- 1 – 1½ cup sugar ( depending on your taste)
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large egg yolks
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour or cornstarch or arrowroot powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
Recipe –
Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a 9-inch pie pan with pie crust and bake until the edges and bottom are golden and appear dry. Cool completely.
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, egg yolks, salt and cocoa powder until well combined. Stir over medium heat until the mixture just barely comes to a boil and becomes thick, which should take about 6-10 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla until melted and completely combined.
Pour the pudding into the baked pie shell (For an extra velvety texture, pour the pudding through a fine mesh sieve) Refrigerate uncovered for at least 4 hours or overnight before slicing. Serve with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of hot chocolate fudge.
